Description
NOTE: to clarify any confusion, the item called Case Trimmer is the main trimmer body with the bearing and 1/2" HSS endmill. Each bushing is sold separately so you can buy just the ones you reload for. So, at a minimum, you would need to buy the Case Trimmer and at least one Bushing to be able to trim cases.
This 3D-printed HVT (high volume trimmer) is similar to a few other drill powered case trimmers, such as the WFT / World's Finest Trimmer. It's a larger version of my standard HVT case trimmer (check that one out for all your standard size cases - 223, 308, 300 WM, etc). The Large HVT comes with a 1/2" HSS endmill for the cutter and will fit into any 1/2" drill chuck. Trims up to a 45-caliber case mouth, depending on the bushing used. It can fit up to a Cheytac sized case - any larger won't fit through the bearing.
You set the length by loosening the pinch bolt and sliding the cutter in or out. The pinch bolt has an embedded stainless steel nut to avoid stripping the threads.
Tip to avoid making a mess with the brass shavings: Wrap masking tape around the body of the trimmer (over the drain holes) to hold the shavings. Every 100 cases or so, remove the tape and dump out the brass shavings.
For bottleneck rifle cartridges this system uses interchangeable bushings to fit various cartridge families. The bushings are a light press fit in the sealed ball bearing; you reach inside a drain hole with the included dowel to pop it out. I am going to keep adding more calibers as options. If you want a caliber that I don't have listed, let me know and I'll make it top priority. You can use the same bushing for any cartridge in the same family but with a smaller neck diameter. The case "headspaces" on the shoulder of the bushing so if you keep your base-to-shoulder dimension consistent, the HVT will trim to a consistent case length.
For pistol cartridges I have made special holders that secure the case and center it in the bearing. It also engages the extractor groove to make sure it doesn't slide out. The holder is a snug fit inside the bearing so that it keeps tension on the case and won't let it spin when the cutter hits it.
Satisfaction is guaranteed - if you receive your trimmer and don't like it, just send it back in like-new condition for a full refund. Or if it breaks but that is very unlikely. The filament used is high-strength PETG which is much more durable and temperature resistant than PLA in this application.
Check my other items: all my 3D printed items ship for free if you buy a trimmer. Just send a "Request for Total" before you check out and I'll adjust the shipping charge.
